Our projects

Since CNWL Arts in Health was launched in March 2010 we have successfully run, developed and lead several projects according to the needs of our participants and service.

 

Gallery Visits

Our service users are invited to attend a monthly ‘Arts Visit’ which may be either a gallery visit or a music/drama performance. This is an opportunity for participants to meet each other see any new exhibition in the community and to be make artwork together to share reflections on the gallery.

Arts in Health Launch 

We recently held an exhibition entitled ‘Home Truths’ at Park Royal Industrial Site). A staff and service user joint exhibition.

 

Willesden Gallery Wall Art Project

Artist, Bar Angelo, held his first solo show and it was our first project in partnership with Brent Council.

 

Participants Video Collaboration Photography Project ‘Places I’d like to be ‘Chamberlayne Road'

This community workshop ran for two weeks, featuring Artist, Emma Hart.

 

Pine Ward- Artist and service user’s collaboration project

Staff and service users held a collaborative event on an acute ward in Park Royal Centre for Mental Health. This was an innovative artist-led workshop to create permanent artworks for the ward’s communal areas.

 

South Kilburn Artist in residence

Collaboration with service-user led charity to create a permanent piece of work for the Salvation Army.

 

Multi-story, an Arts Project at the Brent Museum

In collaboration with Brent Arts and Culture Department, this three-month exhibition used archived objects in Brent Museum’s collection.

 

Light Graffiti – Workshop and Exhibition at Brent Museum

A community project at Brent Museum with an Artist creating light images with participants from a variety of backgrounds with a celebration event at Willesden Library centre and exhibition.

 

Olympic Torch Project

Working with Brent Council Cultural Olympiad and Mahogany Carnival Design, this was a large scale project set in the acute and forensic wards of Park Royal. This included large flags produced for the Torch relay through Wembley.

 

Summer Film project 2012: Creating Freedom at Horton Haven

Producer and Director, Alex Dower, devised a series of workshops on acting using the science of acting. 4 weeks of workshops and 1 week of filming producing a short narrative film and a documentary. Premiered in West End, London.

 

Park Royal Tri-Ward Project in collaboration with Studio Upstairs

An artist led project working on 3 wards of the park royal site creating permanent integrative works of art for all three wards which were made by the staff and service users on the wards. Working with charity volunteers from Studio Upstairs.

 

Mapping Shoe Stories - Brent Civic Centre

Working with Artist Caroline Lee - a community project at the Albert, realising a temporary exhibition at Brent’s new civic centre. A celebration event featuring the Horton Singing Group and collaboration with Dance Company.

 

Horton Recording Project

Over a series of 3 months at Horton Haven the singing group worked with the Music Therapist, on creating a full album produced on CD with original music from residents at Horton and choir covers.

 

Summer Film project 2013: Creating Freedom at Horton Haven

Following its success in 2012 a similar project was created where a larger participation in the workshops and filming was created producing a short film set in the 14th Century. The premiere of the film was held in the Everyman Cinema Belsize Park and Epsom – December 2013.

 

Northwick Park in collaboration with the University of Westminster

Students from UoW worked in collaboration with Services Users and staff at Northwick Park Hospital to create works of arts from the new CNWL Recovery Training rooms entitled: “Material Elements”. Celebratory pieces were also created for the open space in the mental health unit at Northwick Park hospital.

We are currently working on a number of projects which consist of workshops- collaborations between professional artists and participants both in the community and in different inpatients wards within Camden, Brent, Harrow, Hillingdon and Epsom.
