CPA Changes - Consulting Service Users, Carers and Members of the Public
CNWL is carrying out a major review of its CPA policies and procedures. The new core CPA policy came into effect on 1 April 09 after lengthy consultation.
Appendices to the policy will set out detailed operational guidance for different services and detailed background information. We are also developing revised forms to support the process and reduce some of the bureaucracy involved.
We want to make sure these documents are the best they can be, so we want your views before we finalise them.
The table below sets out the planned schedule. Documents already out for consultation are highlighted in blue - you can find a copy of the document by clicking on the link.
Developing New Forms
Forms are there to help everyone be clear about what is happening, the information decisions are based on and who is involved.
Developing new forms is a complex process and it is important we get it right. We are consulting widely with service users, carers, staff and members of the public so that everyone–s views are taken into account. We are also carrying out pilot projects in three areas to test drive the forms in practice.
CPA Forms
The new forms will use information technology to speed up the process by copying information from one document to another. The Trust is in the process of introducing a new clinical database called JADE. This is currently used in Harrow, Hillingdon and Addictions & Offender Care and is being extended to the rest of the Trust in stages. This means the main new forms will not be fully introduced until JADE is in use Trustwide. We are asking for comments on the main CPA forms by 16 October 09.
Discharge Notification Form
We are also consulting on a Discharge Notification form to be given to service users, GPs and other people who need it when a patient is discharged from hospital. The plan is to start using this as soon as possible, so we are asking for comments by 24 September 09.
Audit and Final Review
Once all the documents linked to the policy have been issued there will be a Trustwide CPA audit, currently planned for Spring 2010. This will be accompanied by another round of consultation on the policy and a formal review based on comments submitted and the results of the audit.
