Arts in Healthcare Conference 2016

Date: 21-23 October, 2016
Venue: Pratt Institute, 200 Willoughby Ave, Brooklyn, New York 11205, United States

Overview - The Art of Mentalizing

In October 2016, we will bring together friends from all psychological professions to explore the role of arts in healthcare .

In the UK and  the US, methods of using arts to treat mental health conditions are known to be in demand by patients across a wide number of healthcare settings.

Clinical pilots, controlled trials and process analysis studies have all shown that using arts as part of healthcare can be effectiveness.

About the conference

This conference, in partnership with ICAPT University Alliance and the Pratt Institute,  will give a voice to the recent developments that illustrate strong synergies between arts-based and mentalization-focused approaches.

The event will introduce you to methods of promoting mentalizing that links with clinical outcomes, but more than this, it will engage you as a participant, researcher and clinician to learn more about, question and develop evidence-informed interventions.

Psychosocial research is reaching an important landmark, providing an understanding about how we articulate ourselves through our bodies, images, sounds and playful engagement.

How do we bring into play the full array of communicative functions to help us recognise and develop the clinical process to meet clinical aims?

Be prepared to immerse yourself in the arts process, to see live arts-based interventions, to hear about emergent and cutting edge research from the UK and US and put ideas about mentalizing to the test. This is evidence-informed practice in progress.
