Discussing the barriers faced by refugees
16 February 2017
Our specialist registrar in genitourinary medicine and HIV at the Mortimer Market Centre, Dr Danielle Solomon, has written a blog for the BMJ in which she discusses the obstacles that stand between refugees and basic healthcare.
Dr Solomon, who has a background in global public health, refers to the reinstatement of the Mexico City Policy by the United States as one of the many barriers that refugees face when attempting to access sexual and reproductive health services in general.
The policy prevents NGOs from receiving US funding if they provide abortion counselling.
