Camden Integrated Primary Care Falls Service provides two levels of exercise group: the Staying Steady exercise programme and the clinical referral scheme for physical activity. Patients will be directed to the group most appropriate to their ability.

Staying Steady exercise programme

This nine-week exercise programme is for patients who may have poor mobility, muscle strength or balance and would not be able to use a taxi independently.

It comprises group exercise and education designed to improve balance, strength, confidence and independence. It also includes discussion groups led by health professionals such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists/nurses, dieticians and psychologists.

Who is this exercise group for?

The exercise group is for Camden residents who:

  • Are unsteady, have fallen, have a fear of falling, or are at risk of falling
  • Can independently transfer and mobilise a short distance with or without an aid
  • Can able to follow instructions (cognition, vision, hearing)
  • Are able to carry-over learning from sessions to everyday activities
  • Show the potential to benefit
  • Are medically stable

How can someone be referred?

The service accepts referrals from general practitioners (GPs), hospital staff and any health or social care professional.

It also accepts self-referrals: telephone the Central Access Team on 020 3317 3400.

Clinical referral scheme for physical activity

This is an eight-week exercise programme for patients who are able to sit to stand from a chair without using arms, and also able to use a taxi independently.

The programme comprises group exercises held in a community setting, jointly run by Camden Integrated Primary Care Falls Service and Camden Active Health Team.

Groups are currently held at the Peckwater Centre in Kentish Town, Kingsgate Resource Centre in Kilburn, and the Charlie Ratchford Resource Centre in Chalk Farm

The exercise group is for Camden residents who:

  • Are unsteady, have fallen, have a fear of falling, or are at risk of falling
