Respiratory services treat and manage diseases of the respiratory system, and provide education and support for patients and other healthcare services.

Services treat the following conditions:

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD: chronic bronchitis and emphysema)
  • Other respiratory conditions (bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease)
  • Some neurological conditions (Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease)

Teams include nurses, physiotherapists, respiratory consultants and psychologists, who deliver:

  • Pulmonary rehabilitation
  • Screening service for COPD
  • Spirometry for diagnosis and optimising management
  • Disease education and management for COPD
  • Home support for patients with an exacerbation or ‘flare-up’ and early intervention post-hospital discharge
  • Secretion clearance management
  • Breathlessness manangement
  • Education and support to other healthcare services
  • Psychological support for anxiety, depression and breathlessness
