Infection, prevention and control

The Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Team at CNWL is made up of specialist nurses, doctors and administrators who work with all CNWL staff to create a safe environment, where the risk of infections are minimised for patients, visitors and staff . This is in accordance with the requirements of the Code of Practice on the Prevention and Control of Infections and Related Guidance, under the Health and Social Care Act 2008.

We believe that infection prevention is everyone’s business and encourage all our employees to play their part regardless of their jobs. We do this in a number of ways, such as producing evidence-based policies, educating our clinical and support staff, carrying out audits to make sure high standards of infection prevention are maintained and monitoring infections of particular significance.

CNWL has IPC teams based in Central London, Hillingdon, Camden and Milton Keynes but they cover a much wider geographic area depending on where our services are based.

How can we help you

We would be more than happy to deal with any enquiries about infection prevention within CNWL. You can also access NHS Choices and Public Health England websites for information on common infectious diseases.

How can you help us

Good hand hygiene is the single most important factor in preventing the spread of infections. Please use the wall-mounted alcohol hand sanitisers provided at the entrance to most of our sites to sanitise your hands on entry and exit.

If you are feeling unwell, especially with a potentially infectious condition such as diarrhoea and/or vomiting, a rash ( for example as a result of chickenpox or shingles) or a flu-like illness, please do not visit anyone in our inpatient units and wait until you have fully recovered. This is also important if you have an appointment at any of our outpatient centres.

Annual reports

Our annual reports detail all the activities that our service engages in and many other infection prevention and control related matters throughout a given financial year. See below:
