CNWL comments on HMP Bronzefield report
05 November 2019
Responding to the BBC story CNWL Offender Care said:
"We welcome the findings of the Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) just published. We look forward to working with them on their recommendations.
"CNWL has very low vacancies – two, and both posts have been offered; we hold quarterly Surrey Regional Recruitment Events and have a constant flow of staff coming in.
"We are also working with NHS England on the ‘transfers to hospital’ issue; this is ongoing and not unique to Bronzefield.
"Whilst there are established pathways into and out of our secondary mental health services, which we have worked hard to develop and includes a specialist personality disorder service, we will immediately work with our justice partner Sodexo and others to review the pathway and staffing arrangements as well as access to our services.
"Our staff at Bronzefield were extremely saddened to hear of the death of the baby and expressed our deepest condolences to the mother and her family.
"The CNWL Mental Health service at HMP Bronzefield is supporting those prison staff and others directly involved in this tragic incident.
"As well as an internal review by Sodexo, we are contributing to the NHS England and the Ministry of Justice reviews underway."
