Good practice at HMP Send’s healthcare unit
05 July 2018
HMP Send’s healthcare unit has been highlighted as an example of best practice during a meeting of the House of Commons Health and Social Care Committee, which was looking at prison health.
HMP Send was described as having a “fantastic system”, which is "through the gate" and has good social care linked with health care.
HMP Send is now going to pilot a person-centred ‘My Life My Care’ approach to be offered to older prisoners when they are released. This pilot will start in Autumn 2018.
Head of Healthcare at HMP Send, Penny Leese said: “We’re excited about this opportunity, the women here will benefit greatly from this initiative and on a personal note I feel privileged to be a part of it.”
