Alison Braithwaite, Head of Children’s Nursing Services, has won second place in the Journal of Health Visiting’s Health Visitor of the Year Award.

She attended a ceremony last evening with colleagues where she received her award.
“I’m so very proud of her. It is very well deserved,” said Zoe Sargeant, Head of Children’s Services, who nominated Alison.

The Journal of Health Visiting Awards highlight and reward excellence in evidence based health visiting.

Why Zoe nominated Alison

Zoe described Alison as committed and passionate about health visiting.

“The support she offers her teams and individual colleagues is astounding. She has tireless energy to support change and enthusiasm that motivates and excite her teams…

"Alison goes above and beyond in supporting staff not only in work but is very generous with her time should staff need support in their personal lives. She offers an ear and coffee whenever needed; all who work with her find her a kind and caring manager,” says Zoe, in the nomination form.

Among other things, Zoe says Alison helps to make the day to day work of health visitors more seamless; she has worked with team leaders to redesign support systems across a 0-19 service, and works closely with partners including local authorities, the midwifery service and primary care to make sure stakeholders know how to refer patients.

Alison has worked in the NHS since her late teenage years when she started as a student nurse. She's been a health visitor for 18 years.
