About the service

The Health Visiting Service is a specialist team that provides advice, support and intervention to families with children in the first years of life and helps empower parents to make decisions that affect their family’s future health and wellbeing. The team can offer you and your family support before your baby arrives, in the early weeks after birth and as your child grows. Staff work alongside you and your family with any parenting issues and guide you to find your local services and groups that can also support you as a parent.

The service is led by health visitors and is supported by community staff nurses, nursery nurses and administrative staff.

Eligibility 

The service is for children from birth to five years of age whose families are residents of Harrow.

How can someone be referred?

Clients are seen at Milmans Children’s Health Hub, Children Centres and health centres, as well as their own home, where appropriate. 

You can self refer. Please contact us if you are worried about:

  • Your child's health and development
  • Your own ability to cope due to stress or ill health
  • Other family problems affecting your children

Service times

Our Harrow Health Visiting service runs from 9 am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

The service also delivers Harrow Community Child Health Clinics between Tuesday to Friday, across various local children and health centres. This includes walk in weighing and Health Visitor advice, no appointment is required.

The recommended times for routine weight check for your baby are: 

  • Birth
  • First week (usually done by the community midwife around 10 days)
  • 6-8 weeks
  • 12 weeks
  • 16 weeks
  • 1 year
  • 2 years
  • 5 years (by school nurses)

You can check you baby's weight by attending one of your drop in clinics. If you have any concerns about your baby's weight then please discuss this with your Health Visitor, or see further contacts below.
