Hillingdon Health Visiting Service

Hillingdon Health Visiting Service promotes the health and wellbeing of families with children under five.

The team includes health visitors, community staff nurses, nursery nurses, health visitor assistants and administrative staff. The team works closely with children's centres, social care and other healthcare professionals including general practitioners (GPs).

Hillingdon has health visitors specialising in breastfeeding, children with special needs or a disability (SEND) and hospital liaison.

Breastfeeding support

The breastfeeding coordinator provides support with infant feeding in collaboration with maternity services and children’s centres within Hillingdon.

Parents can access free antenatal classes in children's centres across Hillingdon. These classes will provide you with all the information you need to make an informed choice and will guide parents through the first few weeks of breastfeeding their baby.

To find out when sessions are taking place, please visit www.hillingdon.gov.uk/childrenscentres

Ongoing breastfeeding support is available in children’s centres, where staff have been trained to help and support parents with breastfeeding. Parents are advised to telephone their local children’s centre or health visitor to ask for help at any time of the working week. If a trained member is not available immediately, everything will be done to ensure contact parents receive the support needed.

Hillingdon Hospital Maternity Unit has developed a breastfeeding guide which is simple and clear in helping you get off to the best start with infant feeding.
