The sessions are on every Monday (except bank holidays) from 9.30am to 12noon at Speech and Language Therapy (by the Luing Cowley Outpatients Building), Milton Keynes General Hospital, Standing Way, Eaglestone, MK6 5LD (see map); and the first Tuesday of each month from 9.30am to 12noon at the Speech and Language Therapy Department, Wolverton Health Centre (opposite Greenleys, off the V5 Great Monks Street), Gloucester Road, Wolverton, MK12 5DF (see map)

Play and language (PAL) drop-in sessions
This is a monthly drop-in session for parents to access with their child, to get further speech and language therapy advice and suggestions. No need to book, just come along. Parents must have accessed an assessment for their child before coming to this session.

Hanen programmes
The service offers two highly successful training programmes for parents to help their children’s communication development:

  • It Takes Two to Talk, for parents of children with speech and language difficulties
  • More Than Words, for parents of children with social interaction and communication difficulties

Eligibility criteria (who is the service for?)

The service is for pre-school-age children (0 to rising five years) with feeding, swallowing, and speech and language difficulties. Children must be registered with a Milton Keynes general practitioner (GP).

How can someone be referred?

Parents can simply attend the assessment drop-in to access the service. Children may also be referred to the service by their GP, health visitor or pre-school leader. The service operates an open referral system and anyone can refer a child if they have concerns about their communication.

If parents have concerns that their child is experiencing physical difficulties with eating (chewing and swallowing) and drinking, they can ask their GP, health visitor or paediatrician to refer them to the service.
