Dr Minaxi Patel, Speciality Doctor
Dr Minaxi Patel has extensive experience in Perinatal Psychiatry and started to work at Coombe Wood Mother and Baby Unit when it was in Shenley hospital over 30 years ago.
Dr Patel was involved in the planning, designing and setting up of Coombe Wood, Mother and Baby Unit when it was transferred to its present site at Park Royal Centre for Mental Health in 1993.
Dr. Patel was instrumental in the planning and setting up of a Community Perinatal Mental Service for Brent and Harrow, which became operational in 1998. This was one of the first Community Perinatal Mental Health services in the country and worked on a multidisciplinary basis.
Apart from providing most of the care in patients’ homes Dr Patel also established links with the maternity services at Northwick Park Hospital and set up Joint Antenatal Clinics with Obstetric services. Dr Patel led this team until spring 2017.
Dr. Patel is currently a member of Coombe Wood Outreach service and is involved in the assessment and treatment of vulnerable women and facilitates admissions if necessary and follows up women discharged from Coombe Wood.
Over the years, Dr.Patel has been involved in teaching a range of professional groups who work with perinatal women and has contributed to the midwives mandatory training at Northwick Park hospital for several years.
