Education, development and training

We know that in order to provide the best possible care to all our patients we must invest in developing our staff. We are always keen to encourage staff to reach their potential through training and development opportunities.

We offer training courses that cover many topics. You can read about some of these below.

If you're already a CNWL staff member, you can log in to our Learning and Development Zone (LDZ) to see what's on offer and book your place.

We also have a funding and bursary scheme for staff who wish to develop in their career by undertaking further qualifications - normally a degree or masters.

Our CNWL Recovery & Wellbeing College courses are also open to all our staff. For more information, visit the CNWL Recovery & Wellbeing College website.

Coaching and mentoring

Coaching and mentoring is open to all staff and allows staff to share their knowledge and experience on both a formal and informal basis.

We have an established coaching service which is run by staff for staff. All of our coaches are qualified and many have a number of years experience in this work. All staff can access this service.

Our mentoring database puts potential mentees in touch with mentors. All staff across the Trust, at all levels of the organisation can apply to our mentoring scheme.

Front Line Managers Programme

We run a management programme for all front line managers in a Band 7 or 8A role. This provides them with the tools and techniques needed to succeed as a front line manager.

Attendees also have the option to 'top up' and achieve a Level 5 certificate in Management and Leadership, accredited with the Chartered Management Institute.

Developing Diverse Leaders Scheme

The Trust's current directors, Executive, Divisional, Borough and Service, are keen to help Black and Ethnic Minority (BME) staff advance their careers. They run a mentoring scheme to share their experience and expertise with senior BME staff in a Band 8A role or above.

Women in Management Programme

The Women in Management programme is sponsored by the Executive Board. This programme is designed to support female staff move into management roles. It has offered secondment opportunities to more than 60 members of staff.

Preceptorship Programme

We offer a Preceptorship Programme for newly registered nurses and allied health professionals. The programme provides a structured framework, which will help new nurses and professionals to consolidate the knowledge and skills acquired during their pre-registration course and support them in taking ownership of their own learning and professional development. It will also help new nurses to meet their Post Registration Education Practice (PREP) requirements.
