Congratulations to the psychiatrists at Brent CAMHS (child and adolescent mental health services) who have been named the Psychiatric Team of the Year at this year’s Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) London Awards.

These awards are organised to celebrate excellence in mental health care provision, and shine a light on the heroes improving the experiences of patients.

One of the standout achievements from the Brent team is their electronic attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) medication platform, complete with helpful videos for families. This has been so impactful that it was published in BMJ Open Quality and recognised at the CNWL Improvement Academy awards.

They also developed a study using ambient voice technology to help automate clinical documentation during consultations. This pioneering work has already caught national attention, and it was showcased at the Imperial College Health Partners Innovation Forum, won the poster competition at the RCPsych Better Data, Better Care Conference, and it has even been shortlisted for a Health Service Journal Digital Award.

Bianca Postelmans, Service Manager for Community CAMHS in Brent, Kensington and Chelsea, said:

“We’re really proud of the whole team and the strong leadership that’s helped us achieve so much, even with limited resources. Despite having low psychiatry capacity, we keep waiting times short, support trainees and nurses to grow, and continue to find new ways to improve care. We work closely with our partners to make sure young people get the right support quickly and in the right place.”
