Meet Guy, a Business Support Officer within CNWL’s CAMHS Inpatient Services.

As well as offering general service support, Guy spends most of his time running daily reports on clinical systems, making sure diagnoses are recorded correctly and monitoring staffing retention.

He believes that open mindedness is a crucial quality for anyone looking to work in CAMHS.

“Anything can happen on a daily basis,” he said. “You are going to have tough days with supporting children and young people and some of them are extremely vulnerable.

One of the best things about working in CAMHS is the support you will receive from your colleagues, according to Guy.

“Nobody is left alone. There is support available. It’s a very supportive environment,” he added.

“I’ve done two roles within CAMHS and this is the first mental health service I’ve worked for.

“I think the reason I’ve stayed is the people and, I would say, the camaraderie. We’ve got loads of different professionals, from psychologists, psychiatrists, family therapists, administrators, nurses, you name it.

“And it’s always a collaboration and always a team effort. guy.jpgThat’s one of the big reasons enjoy working for CAMHS in CNWL.”

Guy’s story forms part of There’s a Place For You, a series of films from our CAMHS service.

The series, produced by And Productions, was created with our staff, showing the working and clinical experiences of child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS).

CAMHS is made up of a team of professionals with different skills and backgrounds who work together to provide a range of specialist support to young people and their families, helping with their mental health and emotional wellbeing.

In these films, team members from across the service reveal the day-to-day realities of their roles in mental health, highlighting how rewarding their work is, and why they are so passionate about working with young people.

We hope this can help raise awareness of the opportunities a career within CAMHS can offer. The full series will be released online over the coming months, so keep an eye out for more stories.
