Vedantee Shiebert, a nurse within our Brent Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), has been nationally recognised for her longstanding commitment to improving care.
She received the Outstanding Lifetime Contribution to Healthcare award at the 2025 Our Health Heroes Awards, organised by Skills for Health.
With a career spanning decades, Vedantee has worked across a range of child and adolescent mental health services. She led early pilot work on the national Essence of Care initiative to improve inpatient experience, with her efforts helping to secure funding for wellness-focussed activities that enhanced recovery and engagement on acute wards.
A passionate advocate for mental health awareness, Vedantee has improved collaboration between services and helped reduce stigma in the community. Her personalised approach to care has supported countless young people, from using music as therapy for those with anxiety, to introducing craft therapy for autistic patients to build confidence and self-expression.
Today, as a senior member of an Enhanced Treatment Team, Vedantee plays a central role in staff recruitment, mentoring and retention, ensuring continuity of care in high-pressure environments and helping to shape the next generation of mental health professionals.
After receiving her award at the dazzling ceremony, Vedantee said:
“Every young person deserves to feel seen, heard and supported. It’s been a privilege to be part of services that help make that happen.”
Supported by NHS England, NHS Employers, NHS Shared Business Services, NHS Race & Health Observatory, SFJ Awards and Integrated Care Journal, Skills for Health’s Our Health Heroes recognises and honours the hard work carried out daily by thousands of staff across the UK.
