Meet Sheik, CNWL’s Out of Hours Specialist Mental Health Practitioner for Child and Adolescent Mental Health services (CAMHS). He works in the emergency service (crisis intervention), providing rapid response and prompt assessment to children and young people up to the age of 18.

In the video below, Sheik talks about his experience, highlighting his passion for working with young people and the benefits of working in the team.

He said: “I’m very caring and passionate about it [my job] and it’s quite sad to see these young kids come into hospital needing help, so we are here to provide that help.”

“The team is very good – there is team effectiveness. We understand each other and seek advice if we need to”

Since joining the Trust in 2016, he describes the role as quite challenging but also can't see himself doing anything else apart from caring for people with mental health issues.

Sheik’s story forms part of There’s a place for you, a series of films from our CAMHS service.

The series, produced by And Productions, was created with our staff, showing the working and clinical experiences of child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS).

CAMHS is made up of a team of professionals with different skills and backgrounds who work together to provide a range of specialist support to young people and their families, helping with their mental health and emotional wellbeing.

In these films, team members from across the service reveal the day-to-day realities of their roles in mental health, highlighting how rewarding their work is, and why they are so passionate about working with young people.

We hope this can help raise awareness of the opportunities a career within CAMHS can offer. The full series will be released online over the coming months, so keep an eye out for more stories.
