On 11 June 2025, we held a successful celebration event marking the conclusion of the Management Fundamentals 2024 training programme, a 9-month leadership development journey designed specifically for our senior clinicians. Led by Professor Dot Griffiths and Dr Con Kelly, Chief Medical Officer, the programme has equipped participants with essential skills in leadership, management, and quality improvement.

Over the course of the programme, 24 senior clinicians took part in structured learning sessions and applied their learning through real-world Quality Improvement (QI) projects. At the celebration event, each delegate presented the outcomes of their project work, highlighting the impact of their efforts across a range of clinical and operational areas.

The QI training component of the programme was expertly delivered by Dr Simon Edwards, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, and Alison Butler, Director of Improvement. Their support enabled delegates to apply practical QI methods and tools to drive meaningful change in their services.

Several key themes emerged from the presentations:

  • Meaningful involvement of Experts by Experience: Many projects demonstrated a genuine commitment to involving Experts by Experience throughout the design and delivery process, ensuring improvements were rooted in real-world needs and perspectives.
  • Strong multi-disciplinary team engagement: Teams that embraced collaboration across professional boundaries were able to drive change more effectively and sustainably.
  • Effective use of data: The successful projects all showed a strong emphasis on using data to understand problems, measure progress, and inform decision-making.

The celebration event was not only an opportunity to reflect on what has been achieved, but also a chance to inspire future improvement work and strengthen our leadership community. The programme has supported our senior clinicians in developing the confidence and capability to lead change—skills that are vital as we continue to build a culture of continuous improvement across CNWL.

We extend our thanks to Professor Dot Griffiths and Dr Con Kelly, Chief Medical Officer at CNWL, for their leadership and facilitation of this programme, and to all the delegates for their commitment, energy, and impact.
