CNWL’s Improvement Academy has published its annual report for 2023, which was the sixth year for our Improvement Programme. The report highlights the successes and challenges of the past 12 months, exploring key case studies, and looking at next steps for the future.

You can view the report in full here.

The report states: “The Improvement Academy has delivered it planned activities in the last year and indeed has surpassed them. Of note, the IHI commented at the end of their annual visit 2023 that we had achieved their suggested 5-year plan in one year.

We have seen the impact of our improvement work to; support safer and more efficient services, achieve CPD accreditation of two more courses, be cited as an exemplar for co-production by NHSE, present at more national and international conferences, strengthen the leadership of improvement, be acknowledged as a learning organisation by the CQC and achieve national awards for our improvement work.”

We also gained a number of developments over the year, such as exceeding our 80% target for Expert by Experience (EbE) involvement in QI projects.

The year ahead

The primary aims for the year 2024 includes:

  • Continue to align our improvement work with our CNWL Strategy 2022-25
  • Continue to improve our EbE involvement beyond the current position of 82%
  • Complete our Spreadathon programme 2023-24
  • Further raise our reputation by presenting our work nationally and internationally
  • Continue to build our collaboration and improvement work with our partners
  • Find opportunities for our improvement work to improve the Trust’s productivity (a Trust priority for next year), digital and green agendas
