CNWL’s Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea Occupational Therapists were recently visited by Philippa Wright, Chief of Allied Health Professionals for NHS England, London Region.

Philippa spent the day with the Westminster Community Mental Health Hubs, KCW Mental Health Community Rehab team, and KCW Older Adults Mental Health services. The teams discussed their hard work and recent projects, including the development of the OT pathway within the Community Hubs and the allotment at Woodfield Road. Philippa praised the teams for their dedication and commitment to co-production and their focus on Neighbourhood Health, highlighting how this work aligns with the recently launched NHS 10-Year Health Plan.

During her visit, Philippa also met with the Older Adults Occupational Therapy team, gaining insight into the excellent initiatives they are leading, including specialist therapeutic groups, active involvement in research, and plans to further strengthen early intervention.

The team explained how the occupational therapy teams work closely with social care partners and physical health colleagues to provide holistic, person-centred support that addresses both mental and physical health needs. They also described how data on areas of greatest need and client demographics is being used to inform service design, ensuring resources are targeted where they will have the greatest impact.

The OT teams discussed with Phillipa the NHS 10-Year Plan and the shift towards more community-based care, greater use of digital tools, with a stronger focus on prevention. Philippa highlighted the important role AHPs play in this transformation, “It was encouraging to see that our work aligns with national priorities, and that we are already making good progress towards achieving those objectives,” commented Sarah Peel, Head of Occupational Therapy at Westminster Mental Health.
