Research is at the heart of improving health services and developing new treatments. At CNWL we work with local and national universities and we’re part of around 40 new research projects each year.

Involving patients and carers improves the quality of research - patients and carers bring additional knowledge and insight that researchers may not have considered, as well as bringing  the perspective of using services which can help make research more relevant to clinical practice. We also welcome the skills that patients and carers bring from their personal and professional experience.

For patients and carers, involvement in research brings new skills, increased confidence, fun new experiences, and above all, enjoyment and a sense of achievement.

How to get involved in research

There are a number of ways that you can help a research project. You don’t need any prior knowledge or specialist skills – the research team will provide all the information you need.

Ways to be involved include:

  • Helping to design research studies
  • Conducting research interviews
  • Running or being part of focus groups
  • Providing administration support for studies
  • Attending conferences to communicate study results

You can participate as little or as much as you like.
