Mr Philip Bolland who heads CNWL Healthcare for the IRC and Prisons, said,

“We send our sincere condolences to Mr Fosu’s family and they are in our thoughts today, especially as it has been some time since his death in 2012 (before CNWL took over Healthcare at the IRC).

We have significantly improved the quality of healthcare at the IRC particularly for patients with mental health issues.

Some examples are:

  • We have a new Mental Health pathway and policy
  • New standards on Healthcare support for detainees in Segregation
  • We provide Mental Health awareness training routinely to IRC officers
  • Remodelled our Mental Health staffing to provide seven day coverage.

We will be guided by the Coroner about any further actions needed.

But today we’re thinking of Mr Fosu.”
