Lead Lived Experience Roles

Within the Trust, we have a small number of senior leadership roles who hold accountability for all lived experience work undertaken across CNWL. They are responsible for driving change at the highest level and support the ongoing professional development of the Peer & Lived Experience Workforce.

Individuals in these positions hold lived experience of significant use of health services in a variety of settings and extensive professional experience of using this in their work. They hold management and supervision of colleagues in the Advanced Lived Experience and Lead Lived Experience roles and represent CNWL on a regional and national level.

The Deputy Peer Support Lead holds deputised responsibility for the Trustwide Lived Experience Practice and Peer Support Lead and has specific oversight of lived experience working in adult acute inpatient and community mental health services.

The Trustwide Lived Experience Practice and Peer Support Lead steers the operational implementation of the Peer & Lived Experience Workforce across CNWL, including implementation of strategic developments for the workforce.

They work closely with the Head of the Lived Experience Workforce to ensure cohesive, values-led support and the expansion of the offering across CNWL.

The Lived Experience Lead for the Complex Emotional Needs Pathway across CNWL holds accountability for all lived experience work related to complex emotional needs associated with personality disorder.

They supervise the Advanced Lived Experience Practitioners working in this area and line manage and supervise the Complex Emotional Needs Training and Development Lead.

They work alongside the Clinical Lead for the trustwide pathway to set practice standards and guidance for local pathways and they hold a place in the national steering group for the Complex Emotional Needs Community of Practice, sharing best practice across the NHS.

They hold additional line management and teaching/training duties for the Lived Experience Workforce and report directly to the Head of Lived Experience Workforce.

The Trustwide Peer & Lived Experience Training & Development Lead at CNWL is responsible for the strategic development and delivery of training programs for the peer and lived experience workforce.

This role plays a pivotal part in promoting recovery-focused and inclusive practices by developing and leading bespoke training initiatives that empower both peer workers and staff working alongside them.

The role oversees the operational management of the CNWL Peer and Lived Experience Training Team, ensuring high-quality training aligned with national standards and best practices. As part of the Lived Experience Leadership team, they contribute to advancing the Trust’s vision of embedding lived experience as a vital and valued part of mental health and healthcare services.

The Head of Lived Experience Workforce at CNWL provides strategic leadership and oversight of the Lived Experience Practice and Peer Support Worker Provision across the Trust.

This role ensures that our Peer & Lived Experience Workforce upholds the highest professional standards, promoting recovery-focused and inclusive practices throughout our services. It also provides strategic leadership and oversight of the Peer & Lived Experience Workforce across CNWL.

Working closely with clinical leaders and external partners, the Head of Lived Experience Workforce drives innovation, supports professional development, and champions the value of lived experience in enhancing service cultures, quality and outcomes.
