Service description
The Bariatrics Psychology Service is based at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. The hospital has developed a reputation as a major UK centre for bariatric (weight loss) surgery over the past 10 years.
Bariatric surgery is one of the most effective means of losing and maintaining weight loss. However, it is not a quick fix and requires considerable commitment, motivation and a good understanding of one’s eating behaviour.
The Bariatric Psychology Service provides group workshops to help people make changes to prepare for surgery. They also offer individual psychological assessments and interventions before and after bariatric surgery to help people address any issues that may get in the way of them achieving their goals.
Bariatric surgery will only be considered as a treatment option for people who meet specific criteria. Further information about these guidelines can be found on the Bariatric department website.
Referrals to the bariatric surgery service need to be made by your GP.
