Service description

The Burns Psychology Service is based at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. The service provides specialist care for both children and adults with burns. The service is led by Dr Lisa Williams.

The service offers psychosocial support across the lifespan to those who are receiving care from the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Burns Service and their families.

The service offers all patients who are admitted to the burns unit for at least one night a psychosocial assessment screen.  The screening will establish who will benefit from further psychological support.

Following screening, the service provides inpatient and outpatient psychological assessment and intervention to those struggling to manage the aftermath of a burn injury, no matter how long ago the injury was sustained. As part of the psychosocial care offered we also run a burns support group for adults and participate in the burns family group for children who have sustained a burn.

The Burns Psychology team focuses on a combination of psychological and social factors.
