One Community is a grassroots network at CNWL connecting staff, patients (current and former) and families; demonstrating the value of continuity between inpatient, outpatient and community care, as well as NHS and community organisations.
Operating across St Charles Mental Health Centre and Bay20 community space, the initiative offers activities such as gardening, creative workshops, community trips, music recording, and an annual showcase of poetry, music, and artwork.
Facilitated by two CNWL staff members, these activities help foster connections between service users, staff, and the wider community, embedding One Community in the local area and creating lasting relationships with people from all across London.
Founded by Cate Latto, One Community is a peer-led network that emerged from CNWL's mental health wards and the local community, built on the belief that while each member comes from a place of struggle, together, they can create something powerful.
Each week, the One Community network engage with one another through activities and workshops, including:
- Theatre, script writing and poetry workshops
- Art and creative workshops on various themes with Mark Lovelace
-
The One Community and Danny Irving pop-up music studio, lyric and song writing sessions with professional musicians and engineers plus the opportunity to record, including guitar playing percussion for people of all levels
