CNWL’s Addiction Recovery Community (ARC) Hounslow Team held an awareness event at Sri Guru Singh Sabha Southall Gurdwara on Sunday 16 April.

The local community had gathered at the SGSSS Gurdwara – the world’s largest Sikh temple outside India – to mark the weekend after Vaisakhi, which celebrates the day when Sikhism was born as a collective faith.

ARC Hounslow staff took the opportunity to connect with members of the congregation, promoting the service and raising awareness of the health harms caused by drugs and alcohol.SGSSS (Guru Nanak Road) ARC Hounslow Pic 2.JPG

They were able to take referrals on the day, offer advice and support, and signpost to other relevant organisations.

Shiv Sharma, Recovery Day Programme Manager was grateful “the atmosphere was so welcoming and warm”.

She added: “People showed a real interest in our presence and repeatedly said what an important job it is that we are doing.

“It really felt like we were raising the profile of the Addictions service and engaging with the local community. Very special!”
