Dr Sian Williams from CNWL’s Centre for Anxiety, Stress and Trauma (CAST) was on Radio 4 on Wednesday 27 July about the fainting of Kate McCann during the Leaders debate; Ms McCann is ok and Sian reassured people about fainting.

Dr John Green, Consultant Clinical Psychologist,  adds: “Stress does seem highly likely since it is by far the most common cause. And therefore for most listeners who faint that is likely to be the cause - which is what matters here. Can also be hypoglycaemia, low blood pressure, medication or heat.”

“Patients and staff do ask about fainting and it puzzles people. I think the advice is if you faint unexpectedly and can't think of why or if you have more than one episode recently you should get checked out by your GP but it is rarely a reflection of a serious problem.”
