As part of our Community Services Month celebrations, our Harrow Children’s Community Health Services held a fantastic community event, bringing together families, babies, and staff for a morning of connection, support, and shared learning.
We were delighted to welcome Claire Murdoch, our Chief Executive, and the Mayor of Harrow, Cllr Anjana Patel who both spent time meeting families, chatting with parents, and engaging with our staff. Their visit was a great recognition of the dedication and teamwork that underpin our services.
The event featured our infant feeding drop-in clinic, where parents were able to access one-to-one breastfeeding support from members of our Health Visiting team and Peer Breastfeeding supporters. The session offered practical advice and reassurance to new mums, helping them build confidence in their feeding journeys.
Families also enjoyed a lively Talk and Play Group, led by our early years colleagues, designed to support speech, language, and communication development in young children through fun, interactive play.
Our Health Visitor drop-in and advice clinic, supported by Community Nursery Nurses, provided parents with expert guidance on a range of child health and development topics, while our Breastfeeding Peer Support Workers offered hands-on help and encouragement to families.
Alongside these sessions, our team hosted information stalls showcasing the breadth of support available to local families through our children’s and community services.
"Our staff come from diverse professional backgrounds – nursing, therapy, medical, and non-clinical – working together across clinics, schools, homes, and in Family Hubs. We work with a range of children and young people and their families across Harrow, and I’m always amazed at the range and scale of the work we deliver."
Darren Turze, Head of Harrow Children's Community Health Services
The event was a wonderful celebration of partnership, community spirit, and our shared commitment to giving every child the best possible start in life.
“It was inspiring to see the care, expertise, and warmth our teams bring to local families every day,” said Claire Murdoch, Chief Executive. “Events like this show the true impact of community-based health services.”
Thank you to everyone who took part — our staff, volunteers, partners, and, most importantly, the families who joined us. Together, we’re helping to build a healthier, more connected community for Harrow’s children and parents.
