This January, the CNWL Arts in Health team and participants visited The Photographers' Gallery to see the Chris Killip retrospective. The exhibition served as a comprehensive review of his work documenting the lives of those affected by the economic shifts in the North of England, throughout the 1970s and 80s. Against a background of shipbuilding and coal mining, he showcased the togetherness of communities and the industries that sustained them.

Both staff and service users enjoyed the visit, and participants shared that they were “grateful for this great visit to a beautiful gallery.” After visiting the gallery exhibition, we were given a biographic review by the Gallery’s creative learning team of Killip’s work. Followed by creative time for participants to engage and respond to his photography through drawing, discussion and writing in the Gallery’s Studio.
