1-7 June 2021 marked Volunteers’ Week, a time to say thank you to the hundreds of people across CNWL who make a difference through volunteering.
Throughout 2020/2021, we have:
- Received 1,173 volunteering applications
- Interviewed 689 potential volunteers
- Placed 252 volunteers across various clinical and non-clinical settings
Our volunteers have worked a combined 2055 per week at the highest peak of the pandemic! We’ve had so many people express an interest in volunteering, we’ve had to close applications!
CNWL volunteers are our silent and unsung heroes. Many volunteers worked day in and out throughout the height of the pandemic, and on the back of difficult personal circumstances such as having lost their own paid job and being furloughed. To show our appreciation for volunteers, we held a virtual celebration event on Monday 7 June 2021, 4pm to 4.30pm. Watch it below.
We are also sending a thank you card to each volunteer to thank them for their services.
Download the card (PDF).
The card includes a message from our Chief Executive, Claire Murdoch, which reads:
“Thank you for all your support over the last 18 months – you have been fantastic, inspirational and a massive help to patients, carers, their families and staff every day. You are the silent heroes that bring so much to the NHS. My biggest thanks to you all!"
Nuria De Miguel our Volunteer Services Manager said:
“Since I arrived at CNWL in October I have been awed and humbled at the dedication of our volunteers, and staff volunteers, who have supported in the wards and services, in community deliveries and more recently offering digital support to our carers and service users.
Volunteers have demonstrated that they are key to help us deliver higher quality services to our service users, their carers and families, as well as supporting our staff wellbeing.
A special mention goes to all our volunteers who stepped up during Christmas time. The Check in and Chat volunteers and staff volunteer supervisors, with very little notice, were up and running making daily calls to those that were struggling in such an emotional time.
Although Volunteers’ Week marks the formal celebration, volunteers should be celebrated every time they offer their time and support. We thank you today and everyday”

We also have thank you messages from Charlotte Bailey, our Director of People and Organisational Development, and Robyn Doran, Chief Operating Officer.
