Root and branch reform is required in prisons to improve mental health outcomes of prisoners, a report by the Justice Committee has found.

The report, which is published today on the Parliamentary website, is the Justice Committee’s Fifth Report of Session 2021-22 on mental health in prison.

As part of this session they heard evidence from CNWL Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist Dr Sarah Hewitt and CNWL Consultant Clinical Psychologist Dr Sarah Allen on 8 June.

This was based around papers CNWL submitted to the enquiry on male prisoners, female prisoners and children and young people in prison.
