Patrick Gillespie (pictured) has been appointed as the new Service Director of CNWL Offender Care and will take over from Phil Bolland when he retires in May.

Patrick is a General and Mental Health Nurse and has worked in the NHS since 1978, starting as a Healthcare Assistant at St Joseph’s Hospice in Hackney. In his early career he worked in substance misuse services. He has previously worked as the Service Director of the Psychosis Clinical Academic Group at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the Service Director for Milton Keynes at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust.

Patrick is currently the Interim Managing Director of Specialist Services at Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust. He has also worked in the independent sector, opening a 57 bedded Rehabilitation Hospital.

Patrick said, “I am delighted and honoured to be appointed the Service Director it is a great privilege. I am looking forward to returning to CNWL and joining a fantastic Directorate.”

Jane Hannon, Managing Director for CNWL’s Diggory* Division, said, “Welcome back Patrick – I am very pleased that you will be joining us in the Division once more. Patrick’s expert knowledge and experience and commitment to patient care shone through in the recruitment process and we are very lucky to have you”

“I also want to pay tribute to Phil Bolland who has provided strong leadership to build CNWL’s Offender Care services, which is very demanding, beginning the development of a trauma-informed approach to prison healthcare. You have to care a great deal to work in this field, which both Phil and Patrick clearly do. Phil has made the Division’s approach of “Caring not judging” real; I know Patrick will take the service to a new level. Patrick will begin working alongside Phil in March, so we expect to have a solid and seamless transition”

Patrick is a Trustee of Mosaic Clubhouse in Brixton plus he is an advisor to the Catholic Bishops for England and Wales on the Mental Health Reference Group. He is also a Chair of Governors of a Primary School in South London. Patrick is also a football fan of Charlton Athletic and can always be found down at the Valley on match days.
