During PrEP Awareness Week, CNWL’s new PrEP Outreach Team in London will be launching a programme of rolling community outreach across the boroughs of Camden, Islington, Haringey and Barnet.
The outreach will run for one year across a diverse range of venues, including bars and clubs, community centres, libraries, sports centres, and further education colleges and universities.
We want as many people as possible to know about PrEP and make sure the message reaches as much of the community as possible, while sustaining a focus on groups more at risk of HIV such as gay, bi, and other men-who-have-sex-with-men (MSM), and people who either come from, or whose partners come from, a country with high rates of HIV.
PrEP Outreach Workers will be available to discuss PrEP, book PrEP appointments in CNWL’s clinics, and provide informational and promotional resources, including our ‘Quick Guide to PrEP’ and PrEP tote bags. Outreach Workers will also be providing condom and lube packs, and HIV point-of-care testing so that members of the public can test for HIV, with an instant result generated using just a finger-prick sample of blood.
Dominic Reilly, PrEP Programme Manager, said “From the community engagement work we’ve done so far, we know that many people still aren’t aware of PrEP, or they haven’t seriously considered that it could be for them. Our PrEP Outreach service will provide opportunities to raise the profile of PrEP and answer questions, while promoting wider sexual health through the distribution of condom packs and HIV point-of-care testing.”
