Today we are reminded of Game Changer, the Banksy tribute artwork, which depicts a young boy discarding his Batman and Spiderman figurines in favour of a nurse. A fitting symbol as we mark International Nurses Day for 2021, and commend our incredible nurses here at CNWL as well as across the globe.

As witnessed in their response to the coronavirus pandemic, nurses continue to lead the way as beacons of strength, dedication and compassion.

“Covid-19 has reinforced my value to society and my local community,” says Percy Watunga, Lead Nurse for Camden and Inner London. “But society and the communities are the best judges! The increase in the number of people who want to become nurses is good testimony.”

To mark the occasion, we have sent out a bright and fun badge to all of our CNWL Nurses and Health Care Assistants – because you are amazing! Teams are celebrating locally with their canvas tote bags, which include our CNWL Nurses logo. Take a look at the pictures here.

Centred around the theme A Voice to Lead, we are hosting a special webinar today at 2pm, celebrating the fantastic contributions from our CNWL nurses. Joining us is Jane Clegg, London’s Regional Chief Nurse, alongside our directors and leads of nursing. You will also hear from some of CNWL’s nursing associates and cadets about their journey into the profession. Find out more on this page.

Because CNWL is unable to honour Nurses Day together, we are sharing stories from across our wide nursing family, with our CNWL colleagues reflecting on their careers and why they decided to become a nurse.

“It is the best job ever. So many opportunities and nursing careers that I didn’t know existed until I came into the community. Every day is different which makes it such a fabulous job,” says Clare Palmer, CNWL’s Lead IPC Nurse for the Diggory Division.

You can read all the stories from our CNWL Nursing Family here.

Happy Nurses Day!
