At CNWL we believe providing high quality mental health care for each individual person is fundamentally important. Each year we take part in the national survey on people’s experiences of community mental health services and use the findings to help make changes. Patients are randomly sampled from Community Mental Health Hubs, Home Treatment Teams, Early Intervention in Psychosis Teams and Community Perinatal Teams.
Following the 2024 survey results, CNWL carried out a co‑produced survey and two focus groups to further understand patient experience. Following this, teams made changes to help to improve patient experience, particularly around ensuring people feeling listened to, being treated with care and compassion, having enough time with the clinician and having sufficient privacy during appointments. Encouragingly, the 2025 results suggest that people’s experiences are improving.
The 2025 national survey took place between August and December, with 196 responses. We are grateful to everyone who took part — feedback helps us to identify what is working well and where further improvement is needed.
In 2025, CNWL patients reported an improved experience around:
Carers being given advice on what to do in a mental health crisis
Having enough time to discuss needs and treatment
Feeling listened to
Getting the help needed
Having enough privacy during therapy
Knowing who to contact in a crisis
Being treated with care and compassion
Overall experience of care
Work will continue throughout 2026 and beyond to maintain and build on these areas. We encourage anyone invited to take part in the next survey (due out in Summer 2026) to share their views, as it does make a difference.
