Cate Latto, One Community Founder said, “We are thrilled and honoured to be shortlisted for the Service User Engagement and Co-production Award. Authentic co-production is the DNA of One Community, it is this authenticity and passion that has driven the change. It is truly heart warming to see the far-reaching impact of our one community.”
One Community is an inclusive patient led project dedicated to empowering people with mental health conditions by working with community partners and CNWL to create lifelong opportunities. One Community promotes mental health and well-being, tackles social isolation and loneliness, and builds the confidence and self-esteem of all One Community members.
The words One Community represent the authentic co-production between patients and staff working together to develop a project that is run and steered by patients. Patients are the ones who decide what One Community activities they would like to do and how One Community supports them; this sense of ownership helps build confidence and places patients on a path to wellbeing.
One Community members are patients currently on mental health wards and patients who have left hospital, everyone comes together under one community. For the patients that have left hospital One Community is the answer to any anxieties surrounding discharge because they know they can rely on One Community’s continued support. For patients on wards, seeing those who have left hospital and doing well in the community provides an incalculable sense of hope that they too can get to a stage when they are better.
One Community is a fast developing projecting looking to expand and help even more people feel connected to others and build the confidence of people who have a mental health condition.
One Community is commissioned by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and West London CCG and provided by Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust.
