We're thrilled to announce Professor Owen Bowden-Jones, Consultant Psychiatrist at CNWL and leading addiction specialist, has been awarded a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in this year's King’s Birthday Honours.

Owen receives the CBE for his outstanding contributions to addiction psychiatry and public health.

Reacting to the news, Owen said:

"I am truly delighted to receive this honour. I want to acknowledge the incredible contributions of many remarkable colleagues, without whom this award would not have been possible. Only through collaboration and teamwork can we improve the care for people, and their families, dealing with the challenges of addiction".

Owen brings nearly 30 years of experience in psychiatry and substance use, working across the NHS and private sectors. He is the founder of the Club Drug Clinic, an honorary professor at University College London, and currently serves in several national roles, including:

  • President of the Society for the Study of Addiction
  • Chair of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs
  • Special Adviser to Universities UK Drug Taskforce
  • Policy Fellow at the University of Cambridge’s Centre for Science and Policy
  • Incoming Registrar of the Royal College of Psychiatrists

He has also published national training resources, such as How to Talk to Your Child About Drugs and Clinical Management of Club Drugs and Novel Psychoactive Substances.

CNWL sends its congratulations to Owen on this well-deserved recognition.
