We showcased four teams from across our children’s portfolio in the latest Year of the Child event, giving an insight into patient experiences and the future plans for the services.

We started off with Harrow Paediatric Therapies, a community service who transferred to CNWL from London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust in August 2021.

The next guests were Carol Baines, Named Nurse and Denise Baldwin, Specialist Nurse from the Looked After Children Service in Milton Keynes.

“There are 365 children currently in our care system, with nine waiting to come in from the Local Authority,” said Carol. “We’re the added safety blanket, continuing to work with police, schools, GPs and social care to develop our service so we meet the complexity of needs for children while in care and beyond.”

From Camden School Nursing Service we were joined by Deputy Service Manager, Helen Gunderson and Healthy Living Practitioner, Joshua Greaves.

Helen said: “This year, school nurses identified 1727 children as having a long-term medical condition or needing support with a health concern and we contributed to 755 medical care plans.” She also noted that “mental health visits were on the rise” during follow ups with children after an attendance at A&E.

The final showcase included the MOSAIC Child Development Team, with Service Manager Darren Turze discussing the ‘Waiting Well’ programme, which offers support to families waiting for assessment using the MyCHILD virtual workshops as well as a telephone support line.
