In March 2020, the wards at the Gordon Hospital were rapidly closed as part of CNWL’s Covid-19 response and safety.
We had serious concerns of its risk for infection prevention and control e.g. lack of ensuite bathrooms. This was the quality driver for the decision, given the vulnerabilities those with mental ill health face. Being in a confined space (with heightened risk of infection spread) and the high physical comorbidities of patients, the consequences of infection were a particular risk.
Due to the then level 4, now level 5, covid emergency, as with many frontline partners, CNWL found it necessary to make this decision rapidly and was not able to fully consult with local partners as would be normal practice.
Provided national regulations allow, we are planning to start a formal consultation on the future of the Gordon, possibly March (depending on the pandemic), but want to hear from you before then as part of a pre-consultation process.
This slide pack has been prepared (opens PDF).
We know you may have questions or thoughts about the future of the Gordon, so we are hosting a series of virtual Q&A sessions with stakeholders to promote an open dialogue on the following dates:

- Tuesday, 2 February from 4:00 to 5:00pm
