The Team at Heathrow Vaccination Centre hit a huge milestone today as they gave out their 100,000th Covid-19 vaccine.
Lizzie Rickman was the patient to receive the 100,000th jab and was met with cheers and confetti as she walked into the vaccination centre. Everyone celebrated together and Lizzie said “I’m just really happy”.
To reach this milestone means many lives have been saved and to achieve it in just 5 months is extraordinary and a testament to the hard work of all the staff and volunteers, from the parking attendants to vaccinators.
Most of the staff are from the NHS but people from across the community helped to give vaccines, including Adam Kwiecien who is a member of British Airways Cabin Crew. Adam started volunteering as a vaccinator when he was furloughed and gave Lizzie her vaccine today.
Maria O’Brien, CNWL Chief Nurse said, “Staff worked around the clock to open the Heathrow Vaccination Centre in the quickest time possible, from then the team’s momentum hasn’t stopped and that’s why they’ve reached this incredible achievement. Congratulations to everyone in the team.”
Chloe Vaziri, Head of Operations at Heathrow Vaccination Centre said, “This service has been a true collaboration between multiple organisations and feels like a community enterprise with volunteers from the Royal Voluntary Service who have become as much a part of the team as the paid members of staff. I’m humbled by the level of commitment and dedication from all of those who have been involved and feel privileged to have been a part of it.”
