Today (12 May) is International Nurses Day – an annual event that commemorates the birth in 1820 of Florence Nightingale.

It is also a chance to showcase the incredible work of nurses and the difference they make to patients’ lives and an opportunity to say thank you.

As part of this, CNWL has sent a thank you card to each and every one of our more than 2,000 nurses as well as our wider nursing family. We know you are working through challenging circumstances and despite this, you continue to go above and beyond every single day.

We are also taking this opportunity to showcase six videos we made for our Nursing Conference, which we held last month.

These videos show the breadth of the various roles that nurses carry out and show the pride they have as nurses.

On one, Luxmi Dhoonmoon, a Tissue Viability Nurse Consultant, says: “[Nursing] brings the compassion from inside me and helps me to make a difference in people’s lives.”

Another, Ciara Moss, a Senior Rapid Response Nurse, says: “I enjoy working for Rapid Response because being out and about in the community, working with a variety of different people from lots of different backgrounds.”

The videos also show the human side to nurses. They are more than just nurses, but are also mothers, singers, carers and proud northerners.
