Kingswood ward in Brent is an adult inpatient ward providing a safe and therapeutic environment for people with acute mental health problems.

The inpatient ward is suitable for people who:

  • Are age 18 or over and male, where the mental illness is such that 24-hour inpatient care is necessary, due in the main to severity of symptoms and subsequent clinical risk factors. Decisions to admit patients to the ward are based on a robust risk assessment.
  • Present as settled and be medically optimised. Patients with period of aggression in the last 72 hours are not suitable for admission to the ward.
  • All admissions need to be screened by the ward Consultant or Matron.
  • All admissions will be planned admissions during working hours Mon-Fri 09:00 – 17:00. The team is currently not set up to accommodate out of hours admissions.

Due to the standalone location of the Kingswood acute ward and limited access to response teams and seclusion facilities the ward Consultant and Matron will need to thoroughly risk assess and agree each admission to minimise risk to staff and patients.

Referrals for Kingswood acute inpatient ward will be received through the Park Royal bed management team and sent to the ward Consultant and Matron who will determine whether admission to the ward is appropriate.
