Camden and Islington’s Stop Smoking Service – Breathe, it’s about living – will be delivered by CNWL from 1 April; contributing to the reduction of smoking in the boroughs; helping local communities to live healthier lives.
CNWL will offer an integrated three-tiered stop smoking service to make sure smokers/tobacco users receive the best support according to their circumstances and personal preference, to help them stop smoking successfully.
The tiers of the service will be:
- Self-support: use of online and printed information and apps for smokers who want to quit without ongoing one-to-one or group support.
- Brief support: a clinical service (minimum of two sessions) with appropriate medication provided by trained professionals in community settings.
- Specialist support: a clinical service for smokers who find it harder to quit, and can benefit from intensive face-to-face behavioural support, alongside optimum medication.
CNWL will also offer evidence-based stop smoking training to support professionals and volunteers to offer support in the community too.
Graeme Caul, Chief Operating Officer at CNWL, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Camden and Islington Council to help people on the journey to a smoke free life.
“CNWL is very experienced in running successful outcome-focused stop smoking services in the community and during an inpatient stay.
“Evidence shows that you are up to four times more likely to quit smoking successfully if you use an NHS Stop Smoking Service than if you try to quit using willpower alone.
The service will be available and easily accessible in a variety of settings and venues across the London Boroughs of Camden and Islington and we’ll also offer virtual appointments by telephone or live video link for those who prefer to access support that way.
“Stopping smoking can be difficult but with the right support, you can become a non-smoker for good.”
