On Wednesday 1 December 2021, we hosted our second virtual Therapies Conference for over one thousand therapists and allied health professionals working across the Trust. Throughout the day, 672 therapists joined us.

The theme for this year was clinical effectiveness throughout the lifespan, where we welcomed our AHPs, psychologists and psychotherapists to explore outcome measures, sharing learning of clinical effectiveness, quality improvement, effective team working and student placement experiences.

Claire Murdoch, CNWL’s Chief Executive, opened the event and said:

“I’m so proud of the work you all do – the hundreds and hundreds of you working across the Trust. The span of specialist care across the life course, settings from prisons, hospitals, clinic and home, is awesome. Life changing care and innovation. Thank you. ”

Our key note speaker, Professor Pamela Enderby, OBE, who specialises in therapy related research with a special emphasis on measuring outcomes, led a discussion entitled Strictly Come Rehabilitation on team working in the current environment and using data effectively.

This was followed by a session from Seun on extending student clinical placements based on positive outcomes for patients and staff.

Milton Keynes Speech and Language Therapy leads, Amanda Bousaki and Nina Soloff then shared their experience of using a whole systems approach to clinical effectiveness.

There were a range of break out presentations during the day too. Staff can find the recordings for those sessions on the therapies Trustnet page from early next week. Look out for the link in the staff bulletin.

The highlight of the day was the annual CNWL Therapies and AHPs awards, presented by Dr Ryan Kemp, Director of Therapies at CNWL, and Chief Nurse, Maria O’Brien.

The biggest award of the day - Therapist of the Year - went to Hannah Howell-Day, who said

“Thank you everyone-this really means the world to me. Congratulations to everyone else too”
