Surriya Subramaniam, CNWL’s Emergency Planning and Business Continuity Manager, has collaborated on an article for The Institute of Health & Social Care Management about Emergency Planning Resilience and Response (EPRR) and Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI).
The article focusses and shares the findings on the EPRR community’s work in London to understand more about EDI and how they can encourage more diversity of people joining the Emergency Planning profession. It also highlights how better understanding of EDI could help them to support patients and staff by being more inclusive in their planning for major incidents and emergencies.
Surriya said “The role of Emergency Planning, Resilience and Response is to support the Trust to maintain high levels of care during an emergency or disruption. I am passionate about providing the best possible outcomes for our patients and staff, and this is only possible if we truly understand the needs of the diverse communities that we serve. I flagged the need for our profession to reach out more to communities and consider how they can encourage more diversity. I’m encouraged that my colleagues in the NHS have taken up the challenge. The article summarises our journey so far”.
