CNWL has recently updated its disciplinary policy for staff.

Managers have been invited to a launch webinar to learn more about the changes.

What are the key changes?

  • A ‘top to toe’ review to reflect our framework Safe and Compassionate, Reflective and Fair (SC&RF) in terms of language and process
  • Pre-Disciplinary Checklist – to support initial fact finding to help managers consider the wider issues, systems and inform appropriate next steps
  • Roles and Responsibilities – we have strengthened the responsibilities section particularly the commissioning managers and their role to appoint an independent welfare contact
  • We have also added the role of SC&RF Reviewers to provide advice at the checklist stage

About SC&RF

SC&RF is a positive and consistent, learning approach to open collaboration based on four elements that work together:

Safe

Safety is our number one priority in everything we do at CNWL. When things go wrong SC&RF provides a psychologically safe place to reflect, learn from mistakes and grow. Learning from mistakes will make CNWL safer for all.

Compassionate

Compassion is at the heart of CNWL. It’s one of our four core values and central to SC&RF. Our aim is to create a climate of openness, free from fear, shame and blame whilst ensuring learning and accountability.

Reflective

SC&RF will bring our people together in a safe environment to talk and reflect. Reflecting will help us learn and grow from mistakes. We’ll ask, ‘what has happened’ instead of ‘who is responsible’ and create a culture where all ideas and innovation are given the chance to grow.

Fair

We will not let bias prejudge situations and we will approach all situations with openness and fairness. We’ll make sure everyone has the chance to have their voice listened to. The focus will be on solutions rather than punishment. We’ll achieve a balance of justice and learning and accountability.
