To mark International Volunteer Managers' Day, 5 November 2021, we’re celebrating and giving a special thank you to our Volunteer Services Manager Nuria de Miguel.

International Volunteer Managers' Day is celebrated every year on 5 November and recognises the leadership Volunteer Managers provide volunteers to contribute to the community. The theme this year is “What Is Excellence? – Pushing us beyond the ordinary” – something that fits Nuria perfectly.

Nuria joined CNWL during the pandemic over a year ago and has made a fantastic contribution to the Trust and its volunteers. She encourages the team to excel and is a never-ending source of encouragement to volunteers to keep doing the amazing things they do – always leading by example. Don’t just take our word for it - her colleagues describe her as “a wonderful inspiring ambassador” and highlight that “her passion, warmth, humour and sheer loveliness has been felt most keenly by service users who are encouraged to volunteer with us and so well supported by Nuria and the team”. Another colleague also said: “She has enabled me to express myself openly and honestly, and has helped me grow in ways I didn’t know I could, and for that I am very thankful.”

Our Chief Operating Officer, Robyn Doran also shares this lovely thank you message to Nuria.

Below are some of her remarkable achievements over the past year:

  • Formalising and expanding volunteer support in numerous sites including St Pancras, St Charles, The Gordon, Northwick Park and many more
  • Heading two Award Winning projects – Check in & Chat and St Pancras Rehabilitation Unit Befrienders
  • Setting up several Project Wingman sites to give CNWL staff well needed rest breaks during the pandemic
  • Joining the National Volunteer Certificate Programme, so volunteers have a recognised certificate of their training and volunteering to use in the future
  • Encouraging and enabling “Volunteer to Career” where volunteers have become CNWL staff
  • Mobilising a team of volunteers to support residents near to CNWL officers in Kilburn during July’s awful floods

Nuria is also supported in the team by Elaine Singaram – our Check in & Chat Volunteer Supervisor who does a wonderful job supervising and guiding our Check In & Chat Volunteer ‘Chatters’ who call vulnerable carers of the CNWL service. To honour International Volunteers Manager Day, have a watch of this video of Elaine talking more about her role.
